The overfill prevention device is a liquid lock that ensures the free flow of liquid until the liquid level reaches the designed height. When the liquid level reaches the float of the device, it begins to rise and closes the entire cross-section of the pipe with a butterfly valve via the attached rod. In this way, the valve closes continuously, but at a speed that depends on the filling speed. The risk of fluid impact resulting from sudden closure can be avoided by reducing the filling speed. A check valve located in the valve plate ensures that the filling line is emptied.
